Last week, I became a Canucks Fan..

I used to like Hockey. Mainly because I saw the movie "The Mighty Ducks 2." I saw Ducks 2, then bought the video cassette (yes, we used to have them in the 90's before the invetion of DVD or VCD *if you are Asian) for Ducks 3 and finally saw Ducks 1 on TV. In the movie there was this Fulton kid who had an amazing slapshot. That was cool!!!!

When I was 11, I went to a family friend's house for dinner. I was chilling out with all the kids and we happened to be shooting some pucks. After some stick slashing, minor tackling, and a lot of slapshots, one of the kid told me, "Hey I hope you are not planning to play professional hockey right? Cuz you're really bad at it."

I was pretty upset with what he said and my dreams were crushed. I never watched the Mighty Ducks after that incident and stopped playing hockey. ---> I started watching Jordan and started to play Basketball. Good times...

Anyways back to the Canucks. I know they have been around. Over the past couple of years, I've had some friends who were die-hard Canucks fan. Every year, at the beginning of the season, they would tell me how promising the team would be. But when I ask them whether they think the Canucks will win the Stanley Cup, there would be the long pause.......

So I really didn't want to cheer for a losing team. I figure if I want to dedicate part of my time to something, I should get a sense of satisfaction afterwards instead of disappointment.
Lately, however, as I am getting into some hockey, I realized that maybe it's not about winning. There are many interesting aspects of Hockey that is worth watching. We have a pretty strong goalie who makes pretty crazy saves.... we win games sometimes... and there are always fights.

Hockey fights are pretty cool to watch. It's like UFC and boxing but *in my opinion* better. 1st of all, you don't have two sweaty guys clinching each other on the floor 80% of the fight in UFC. 2ndly boxing is just too much for me when they constantly beat each other. In addition, in every boxing match you are expecting a Knock Out to happen. It takes out the element of surprise.

Hockey fights are pretty short, intense and you can ease back into some skating, shooting so you are not overloaded with violence. It's perfect!

So far, I have gotten the response "Hockey is more than just about the fights, it's about..."

But I figure I should start somewhere and slowly ease it to the main point of Hockey.

I don't know if Vancouver Canucks have a chance of winning the cup this season. However, I figure I should learn something about commitment. It's not about what the other person will do for you so you stay in that relationship. It's about supporting them (friends, family, significant others, Canucks) even when they are under-performing or in deep waters.

So now, I am a self-proclaimed Vancouver Canucks Fan!

I'll cheer for them..

Follow their E-letter (before and after games)

Watch at least 1 -2 full games

But i'll buy their jersey later... maybe when I can name all the players.

Go Canucks Go!

Today's Score!
